Working for AKSEL

If you would like to work for AKSEL, please email your resume to trish.

Let me tell you a little something about the way AKSEL does business so you can see if you feel like it would be a good fit for you.

Our primary work is contractual in nature and is typically done off-site.

AKSEL uses a number of online systems that assist with projects such as OpenAir , SourceOffSite , DragNet and GoToMeeting.

The Project plan used for AKSEL is from Steve McConnell’s Software Project Survival Guide and larger projects may use BaseCamp for direction.

The majority of our contractors are independents who work out of their own offices or homes, as the case very often is. Taxes and other incidentals are the responsibility of the contractors. Other work or contracts are typically not a problem although if they impact AKSEL work, then alternate arrangements may need to be made.

There may be times when visits to client sites are required but since the bulk of our customers are remote, it is rare. If contractors show an aptitude to certain areas, such as demonstration skills, etc they may be asked to be involved in more broad uses such as conferences, trade shows, etc.

The way individuals are evaluated for selection here are based on a number of test contracts: primarily bit pieces of work that may last 2 weeks where the work can be properly evaluated. This work is paid for. For most contractual work, it is based on either an hourly rate or , preferably, a fixed rate.

In short: a task is assigned, it is completed, when completed, it is paid for. Work will be reviewed by myself prior to being given to a client. Work is only considered completed when it has been handed back to the client.

AKSEL strives to make things simpler for everyone to understand, using approaches described in this book below.
